What is a momme?
The word Momme is pronounced like “mummy” and was developed by Japan. It is a way of measuring the weight of silk pajamas. 8 momme = 1 oz.
Silk fabric under 20 momme is considered lightweight. 20 to 28 is medium weight. Over 28 is heavy weight. Our silk pajamas are the highest quality available on the market.
What is Mulberry Silk?
Silkworms are fed an exclusive diet of mulberry leaves. They produce something called "natural silk" and is the highest quality silk on the market. Our silk pajamas are made exclusively with mulberry silk.
How do you wash silk?
- Check color fastness of silk pajamas first by treating hidden part of clothing. If color transfers dry-clean only.
- Soak in lukewarm water for 5 minutes. Use a mild liquid detergent.
- Rub stains very lightly.
- Rinse with a solution of 1/4 cup vinegar to a sink full of water (5 gallons). This will remove the soap and help restore the natural shine.
- Rinse again with cool water.
- Take out of the water a put the silk pajamas on a towel and roll the towel up. Squeeze gently.
- Leave the garment on the towel to air dry a little
- While still damp, place the garment in a plastic bag and place the bag in the refrigerator. Wait 30 minutes.
- Take the garment out of the bag and iron THE INSIDE of the fabric. The iron should be set on LOW HEAT
What is a heavy weight silk?
Silk Pajamas are made in basically three weights: light, medium, and heavy. We carry the heavy weight. Heavy weight does not mean it weighs a lot. Heavy refers to the number of silk fibers and is the most durable fabric. Heavy silk is similar to a good quality cotton shirt or bed sheet.
What are pajamas?
Pajamas, also spelled pyjamas can refer to several related types of clothing. The original pajamas were loose, lightweight trousers fitted with drawstring waistbands. In many English-speaking nations, pajamas are loose-fitting, two-piece garments derived from the original garment and worn chiefly for sleeping, but sometimes also for lounging. More generally, pajamas may refer to several garments, for both daywear and nightwear, derived from traditional pajamas and involving variations of style and material. So pajamas now refer to general sleepwear and can include nightgowns, chemise sets, and the classic top/bottom.
